The South Siders’ second full-squad workout of the spring was generally a quiet one for the players, save for some tough injury news for minor-league pitcher Edgar Navarro.
Tuesday’s most interesting tidbits came from the organization and general manager Chris Getz. In conjunction with Related Midwest, the White Sox released a statement regarding legislation necessary for the construction of a potential ballpark in “The 78”. Getz, meanwhile, empathized with fans’ scorn for an internal GM hire and touched on the right field situation.
After reports a few days ago about the need for public money to construct a stadium in “The 78”, Jerry Reinsdorf and property owners Related Midwest met with Springfield lawmakers today.

Regarding the matter, the tandem shared some general comments supporting the project and thanking legislators.
Promoted from within the organization in August, Chris Getz heard the negativity of Sox supporters towards an internal hire. Today, the general manager got candid on the matter, understanding the disapproval.
Chris Getz understands fans' initial disdain for his internal hire as CWS GM: “I’m a fan of sports. And I’ve got sports teams I’ve grown up and feel strongly connected to and if there are struggles, the last thing you want to here is that there’s going to be an internal hire."

More from Getz: "You get thrust into like you are a part of the problem: How could you possibly bring us to a position to be successful." More from Getz in an upcoming story on his plan and what this job truly means to him.

Getz: "That’s why you go out there and you’ve got to prove your worth. That will take time and I understand that. That is fair. And hopefully our fan base can sense us moving in the right direction.”
