Finally the Draft is here
What's up, Yardbarkers? Just wanted to check in with the Yard on the night before the Draft. It's been a big week out here in the Big Apple, not just for me but also for Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan, Vernon Gholston, Chris Long and of course #1 pick Jake Long (congratulations, man). I've been loving New York and the whole Draft experience. I came out a couple days before the other guys on my own to spend some time with some kids from the new york parks department and talk about fitness and exercise. They were fun and Paramount gave them some tickets to go see Iron Man before it comes out on May 2nd. It feels like we've done so many things these last two days. A Nike fitness event with kids from New York City. I got to go to Wall Street. I stood on top of the Radio City Hall marquee and had my picture taken. I met with a bunch of producers from ESPN and also a lot of people from the league, too. I feel like I know exactly what to expect tomorrow... except what team I'll be going to. I'm excited but also really tired. I'm ready to be a running back in the National Football League. Today we had a chance to visit Mt. Sinai Children's Hospital and talk to some kids there. I loved it. We played some pool, some of the guys played Nintendo Wii boxing, and one of the kids was shooting baskets and impressing all of us football players with how good he was. He made 12 out of 13 at one point. His name was R.J. and he was only eight years old. What's up, R.J. Hope you're reading this! Tonight I just chilled. I finally got a chance to meet up with some friends who came out to show their support. We just grabbed a steak and walked around the city to do a little shopping.

I know the feeling you have working with the kids....I'm quite a bit older now and my competing days are finally behind me but I still stay in great shape at 58 and retired......So now I spend my time in Thailand and Cambodia where I am helping several "Street Kids" go to school and just have a little hope...They're great kids and have so much love to share....I'm just so thankful that I have an opportunity now to get involved in something worthwhile....I will be adopting at least one 12 year old when I return next week....Maybe 2-3 kids....I'm sending 10 to Khmer School and 2 now attend the private English School.....The cost is only 120B/mo.....About $3.50/mo per child....If at the end of the season you want to get away and chill and enjoy an opportunity to help some kids let me know....I just do what I do with NO religious or political association.... cutthroattreasures.com This is me in Cambodia and Thailand with my friends and the kids.....

I found these articles and thought they presented some sound advice. I don't believe the "character issue" problem you have been labeled but think these articles from former NFL player Clayton Holmes would be beneficial.

I am so freakin pumped that you are a member of the Raiders. I will see you later from Row 17 of the black hole.
You seem like a really cool guy, too. Good luck with everything and welcome to Oakland.

1), The Fumbling. I know Rathman said you weren't locking your elbow down, but all the tape I watch of you it seems like about 80-90% of the time you carry the ball in the left hand. NFL defenders will be keying on that. In little league they teach you to switch the ball to the outside hand. You're so gifted you've gotten away with it in the NCAA, but I don't think that will fly in the NFL.
2), Could you please stop referring to yourself in the 3rd person. It really sucks having one of "those guys" on your favorite team. It makes you sound like a self-important jackass.
Anyway, I hope Kiffin isn't overly cautious with you. He needs to let you run. Like with Adrian Peterson last year Minnesota kept stubbornly insisting that AP and Chester Taylor split carries long after it was obvious that AP was outperforming Taylo by a mile. I hope every time you break one off Kiffin and Knapp put you more and more in the gameplan and don't try to protect you too much. The best RB in the NCAA doesn't help much on the sidelines, so I hope if Fargas o Bush struggle during a game hey hand it over to you instead trying to stick by their gameplan, even if it's week one or two. You need to be ON THE FIELD. Best of luck!
